Question: How can Data Hunter sell Industrial "WiFi" Port Servers as such retail prices?
Answer: Data Hunter prices devices as "Cost Plus" which is Cost of Manufacturing plus a low
small, fair R&D and profit margin. This is different from the alternative "Maximize Margins"
;business models that "extract as much profit as the customer will bear". |

- Uses the new advanced WiCore versatile and powerful 802.11 chip set.
- More features than any other Industrial 802.11 “WiFi” type device in the World.
- Factory equipment: Communicate with your factory CNC, PLC, Controller, Sensors, meters, data collectors and fork lifts trucks.
- Vehicles and Mobile devices: Attach to vehicles, trucks, boats, aircraft.
- Email: The WiCore allows your equipment to Send an email to you with alerts or status (and Receive email).
- Web Page Server: WiCore allows your equipment to Serve up a saved HTML format web page that can show status and control activities of the machine or device it is connected to.
- Security Encryption: more secure encryption options than any other Industrial 802.11 device.
- Optional enhancements include High milliWatt output power devices, tiny 60mm square extruded aluminum enclosures.
Major Features
- This is IEEE 802.11g and b approved industry standard. It is NOT some made-up (proprietary) standard that won’t work with anybodys else’s devices. The SerialLANgb adheres to the IEEE standard and will work with all other devices world-wide that adhere to the IEEE standard.
- Data Rates individually Programmable up to 3.0mbps, 115 kbps. and as low as 300 bps
- Full Bi-Directional - Wireless Serial Data In, and Wireless Serial Data Out.
- Optional Local Hardware Flow Control RTS/CTS Handshake signals
- Supports full wireless RS232 mobility and seamless roaming from cell to cell
- Easy Set Up is quickly accomplished with the Data Hunter USB Set-Up Utility.
- Remote Set Up of the wireless RS232 Serial port settings, remotely over-the-air via the wireless link (or via USB or either RS232 serial port), and set up via RS232 cables.
- A SerialLAN can also link to another SerialLAN device in a “Peer” One-to-One link (referred to as “ad hoc”). It can link to any other 802.11g (or b) wireless WLAN device or an 802.11gb Access Point or Router.
- Power from +4.5 to +30 VDC.
- Power directly from automotive power in vehicle applications, including auto, truck, bus, tractor and boat.
- Power directly from any instrument, PLC, Controller, N/C machine, CNC controller including 24VDC controller supplies.

RS232 Full Duplex and Half Duplex
RS485 Full Duplex and Half Duplex
RS422 Half Duplex
- Full Duplex Bi-Directional Capable - Serial Data In, and Serial Data Out.
- Data Rates Auto or Set up to 3 Mbps.
- Local Hardware Flow Control RTS/CTS
Wireless Features
- IEEE 802.11 g, b and compatible with n
- 2.4 GHz ISM band (channels 11 US, 13 Europe)
- Supports full mobility and seamless roaming from cell to cell
- Infrastructure (Network), Ad Hoc (point-to-point)
- A SerialLAN can also link to another SerialLAN device in a “Peer” One-to-One link (referred to as “ad hoc”). It can link to any other 802.11gb wireless LAN device or 802.11gbn Access Point.
- Antenna Connector RP-SMA allows RF cable extender to attach remote or high-gain antenna.
Network Address Setting Options
- Set a Fixed network IP Address for each SerialLAN
- Access Point/Router can automatically assign the IP Address via DHCP to the SerialLAN
- SerialLAN can be set to act as a Server and assign DHCP IP address to another device such as a Notebook for very easy AD Hoc connection. A SerialLAN Exclusive.
Network Address Serving – a World Exclusive Feature
The Network Address Serving option is a World Exclusive Feature that makes it extremely easy to connect the WiCore-powered SerialLAN-WS0 with a Laptop, Notebook, PDA, Cell WiFi and any WiFi type device connecting.
- Set just 3 parameters to enable this valuable feature:
1 Set a Starting Fixed Network IP Address. This is the initial starting IP Address that increments with each device (laptop, etc.) that connects to the SerialLAN Address Server.
2 Load the variable number limit of how many devices can receive an IP Address License assignment (such as 10) from the SerialLAN.
3 Load the variable for how long the expiration time for the License (such as 20 minutes, or Forever).
- SerialLAN can be set to act as a Server and assign DHCP IP address to another device such as a Notebook for very easy AD Hoc connection. A SerialLAN Exclusive.
Advanced Security Encryption Features
WiCore devices have more security options for Industrial networks than all other serial port servers in the world.
- WEP-64, WEP-128
- WPA, WPA-2, WPA-Enterprise
- AES-128/256 encryption accelerator,
- 3DES, SSL3/TLS1, RSA, RC-4 and MD-5.
- SSL – Secure Socket Layer
- SHA-1 secure hash accelerator with hardware implementation of a random number generator,
- Easy Set Up is quickly accomplished with the Data Hunter Set-Up Utility.
- Also Remote Set Up of the configuration settings, remotely over-the-air via the wireless TCP/IP Link.
Power
- Power +5.0 to +24 VDC via jack or Pin-9 (Version 1)
- Power +5.0 to +28 VDC via jack or Pin-9 (Version 2)

Converting Programs with COM port Interface to TCP/IP Network Protocol
If the Application program you want to use already has TCP/IP network support, then you already have the ability to send data/files/telemetry to/from the SerialLAN. The easiest way to illustrate this is to bring up Microsoft Windows Hyperterm. You can do this right now at your PC as you read this. HyperTerminal is a Microsoft Windows™ program available in all versions of Windows and is usually accessible from the “Start” button using Start|| Programs|| Accessories|| Communications|| HyperTerminal|| HyperTerm. (You can try it right now at your PC.) Instead of selecting a COM port in Hyperterm Set Up, select the TCP/IP Winsock setting. “Host Address” and “Port Number” should be the same values you assigned to SerialLAN-gb during Set Up.

You can use the free TCP/IP-to-COM Conversion Software included on the enclosed CD.
If your application supports COM ports only and not TCP/IP, then background COM Port Diversion Programs can be used to divert data intended for the COM port and divert it to/from the TCP/IP network interface. A FREE COM-to-TCP/IP program is included with SerialLAN purchase on the enclosed CD.
